Threaded / Sutra (2024)

As preparations for the wedding unfold, Faisal’s mother takes us on a heartfelt journey through his past, weaving together the memories, moments and birthday sweaters that have shaped him.

Threaded was inspired by the complex dynamics within familial relationships and the cultural pressures faced by individuals in conservative societies.

The visual style was enhanced by incorporating rotoscope animation, which allowed me to blend the mother's nostalgic and idealized narration with Faisal's real experiences in a distinctive way. The sweater became a central symbol throughout the film, representing the unraveling truth and the complexities of their relationship.
